Sleepless in ...

I can't sleep, and it's been like this for a long while now! I just don't feel sleepy at all.
Don't know what to do, so I got out of bed to study at 2:00 a.m.
Maybe I should call for Mr. Sandman!

Morbido, I am concerned about you having difficulty sleeping! Especially since you say it is for a long time now. Trouble sleeping can be the first sign of depression. I have experienced depression, and it began the same way for me.

There can be a lot of reasons that a person might become depressed. Social isolation, intense worry about something, loss of a friend or loved one. One modern day cause is very poor diet! American junk food is actually making a lot of kids depressed because it lacks important nutrients or contains to much of certain chemicals that negatively effect the functioning of the brain. As an example, when children eat more fish, nuts, fruits, and vegetables, which are all good foods, and less French fries, potato chips, cookies, and soda, which are bad foods, they usually feel better quickly.

Well, I don't mean to get technical here. I think that you may have some reasons for feeling down. I think that most Iraqi people do! But you are far from home, family and friends. So, I think that this is an extra stress on you. I think that more contact with family and friends might help. Getting out and socializing more at your school, if you have some opportunities, might help too.

I wish you good sleep and pleasant dreams. :)

Just saying "Hi" Morbido!

Have you learned anything interesting in school so far this year? What is your favorite class?

There seems to be some positive signs in Iraq in the news recently. How do you see it?

Best wishes,
