Starting With The Baghdad Diary Project..

Hi to everyone who is reading my blog,

So I will start with the Baghdad-Diary project very soon, probably next week. I got an email from the journalist telling me to send them a diary of one day as test, and to mail some packing papers of chewing gum, milk, food.. and such things. Luckily, I always collect packings papers and stuff! So I will send them soon inshallah.

The journalist also wanted me to see if I have a friend in Baghdad who can write about his\her daily life for the magazine in an interesting way, but the diary detailes should be different from mine. Well, the first friend who came to my mind is Attawie, but the Journalist replyed me saying that they want contributers from Baghdad only! I don't know who else to choose. I have my friends here in Baghdad but I know that they are not interesting in such things, they don't like to write about they daily lives in public.

I know, I have been very lazy lately with blogging! I don't like to be lazy, I always had ideas about what to write about. But I feel that I have nothing interesting to tell about these days. I'm having the same life every day. I'm still waiting for my Dubai visa, but it seems so hard to get it!!! I'm still praying and hoping for it though. I even see that not many people are visiting my blog lately! I have to post more and more in order to keep my blog alive.

I reached chapter four in "To Kill a Mockingbird". The novel seems so amazing from the very first page of it. It's full of details, and the events are connected in a very beautiful way.

Saddam's trial has been on T.V. since the morning. I watched some of it, but then I got fed out and left it. My parents are still watching it till now.

Untill we meet again...

Hi Haneen,

I knew you would like "To Kill a Mockingbird". All the characters were great. I think I liked Scout and Boo Radley the best, though. Bill's right, the movie with Gregory Peck was great as well. It's one of those rare movies that was as good as the book. "Lonesome Dove" (the movie) is as good as the book as well.

If I recall correctly, "To Kill a Mockingbird" was the only book written by Harper Lee. There was some speculation that it was autobiographical. But I think she always denied that.

Btw, be glad your winter is slow in coming. It was only 3 degrees Fahrenheit this a.m. when I got up. Brrrrrr!

Though controversial, there has been some speculation that Truman Capote wrote much, if not all of "To Kill a Mockingbird." It's generally accepted that he contributed quite a bit to the writing of the book.

Lee and Capote have a history of showing up in each other's literature. She inspired a character in his first novel, "Other Voices, Other Rooms." He was the basis for one [Dill] in "To Kill a Mockingbird" and is thought to have helped significantly during the writing process.

Bill, you always surprise me with your ideas! So you think I should repackage the gum wrapers and sell them on e-bay?? Seems good ;)

I haven't seen the movie of "To Kill a Mockingbird" :( Nor the one of "Lonesome Dove" I like the narration of Scout alot. I reached chapter five now, still not that much to know more about the story though.

Well,Lynnette, the reason why I'mrushing winter this year is cuz the current weather is so wonderful now that I should enjoy it out on picnics, while I'm stuck at home all the time!! :( So I prefer winter since I'm not enjoying the weather now. But when there's real winter, at least I can convince myself that it's very cold outside and that I should stay at home!!! ;0)

Thank you Charles for the links. I was checking some universities courses in American Novel and I found that this novel is concluded is almost every cousre! It's so important, and so those links are very helpful :) Thank you!

charleswt,

That's interesting. I hadn't heard that. I will have to check out your links when I get the chance.

Haneen,

There's nothing I like better than curling up with an afghan on the couch and reading when it is cold out.

Canard of Capote authorship

Lee's childhood friend, author Truman Capote, wrote on the dust jacket of the first edition, "Someone rare has written this very fine first novel: a writer with the liveliest sense of life, and the warmest, most authentic sense of humor. A touching book; and so funny, so likeable."[101] This comment has been construed to suggest that Capote wrote the book or edited it heavily.[5] The only supporting evidence for this rumor is the 2003 report of a Tuscaloosa newspaper, which quoted Capote's biological father, Archulus Persons, as claiming that Capote had written "almost all" of the book.[102] The rumors were put to rest in 2006 when a Capote letter was donated to Monroeville's literary heritage museum. Writing to a neighbor in Monroeville in 1959, Capote mentioned that Lee was writing a book that was to be published soon. Extensive notes between Lee and her editor at Lippincott also refute the rumor of Capote's authorship.[103] Lee's older sister Alice has responded to the rumor, saying: "That's the biggest lie ever told."[19]
